Chin and Jawline Pasadena
In the modern age, we know the natural contours of our faces better than ever. A strong chin and jawline can help achieve balance in the face, helping to project confidence and youthful energy. In the past decade, the use of fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Sculptra have multiplied exponentially. In our practice, Dr. Chow regularly injects fillers to redefine various aspects of the face, including the chin and jawline.
Most patients have a recessed, or under-projected chin, and the careful addition of appropriate filler can improve the facial profile. This is also commonly achieved more permanently with a surgical chin implant, but can be done with filler lasting between 6 months to two years, depending on the type of filler used and the speed at which your body metabolizes the biocompatible filler.
Some patients also have a chin that has aged, with volume loss that results in an increased appearance of jowling around the chin, smile lines, marionette lines, as well as thinning and wrinkling of the skin around the lips. The addition of fillers, which can also be done in combination with Botox, skin care treatments, and laser resurfacing, can rejuvenate the chin and provide a cleaner, more youthful look.
Women and men can also have the chin muscle, also known as the mentalis muscle, become hyperactive and spasm or enlarge, causing a dimpled chin. While some prefer this look, others desire a smooth chin free from small dimples or trembling spasm. Botox (or other neuromodulators, such as Xeomin, Dysport, or Jeuveau) and fillers can be injected in order to smooth the chin and restore a calm, aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Contouring the jawline can be done in many different ways. One method is simply to inject fillers along the jawline and angle of the mandible, near the earlobe, to redefine the lines of the lower face and more clearly separate it from the neck. Adding Botox can thin the face, which will also improve the appearance of the jawline. Finally, nonsurgical tightening through ultrasound treatments, laser resurfacing, and thread lifting can provide attractive definition to the lower face, similar to the results of the traditional surgical facelift and neck lift.
