What is the Liquid Facelift (also known as the nonsurgical facelift)? The reason for the word “liquid” in “Liquid Facelift” is because this non-surgical facial rejuvenation is accomplished with a combination of Botox and fillers such as Juvederm, Radiesse, and Sculptra, all of which are used in liquid form. Depending on the specific cosmetic needs of your face, any number of different components in the Liquid Facelift might be used. There is no surgery involved in the liquid facelift, and most results can be seen on the day of treatment.
Does the Liquid Facelift require surgery? Do I need general anesthesia? The Liquid Facelift is a procedure that can be done in the office, without the use of general anesthesia. Depending on the amount of change desired, the procedure can be performed in minutes. In order to make the procedure more comfortable, topical and/or local anesthetics that minimize discomfort may be used. Ice gel packs are also used in order to minimize discomfort. One of the great advantages of the Liquid Facelift is that it does not require any surgery and can be done in the office in a single visit.
How long does the Liquid Facelift last? The cosmetic improvement from a Liquid Facelift lasts for a variable amount of time. The duration of improvement depends on a variety of factors, including the product(s) used, the area(s) of the face being treated, the timing of touch-up treatments, and your own aesthetic goals and concerns. In addition, the combination of products (such as Botox with a filler such as Juvederm), may enhance and extend the results that either might achieve alone. Most dermal fillers, including Juvederm and Radiesse, last up to a year on average, though the products can last longer or shorter depending on the area being treated.
Is the Liquid Facelift painful? In general, a topical anesthetic (numbing cream or ointment) is used before treatment. Some patients do without any anesthetic due to their personal preferences. The actual injections themselves are usually done within minutes, and any discomfort rarely lasts beyond the actual injection period. In addition, Dr. Chow is a skilled injector and uses very fine needles, minimizing discomfort.
Why would I choose the Liquid Facelift rather than the traditional surgical facelift? While surgical facelifts continue to gain in popularity due to their long-lasting results, a sizeable number of folks would prefer something less invasive, even if it is not as permanent and effective. Having little to no recovery time (you can apply makeup before you walk out the door!) and the ability to receive treatment on the same day as your initial consultation are two reasons patients frequently choose the liquid facelift. Others have lost facial volume, which is not treated by the facelift, and therefore restore rejuvenating volume with fillers such as Juvederm, Radiesse, as well as a treatment such as Botox to relax hyperactive muscle.
