Facelift
The lower facelift addresses the effects of gravity over time on the lower face and neck. It restores a youthful jaw line, removing sagging jowls and excess skin. It tightens the lower neck and addresses the "turkey-gobbler" appearance below the chin that can occur with age or significant weight loss.
The face is rejuvenated when the superficial muscle layer (also known as SMAS) below the skin is used to reposition the drooping facial tissue. This prevents tension on the skin, which may lead to a pulled, tight, or plastic appearance. This same procedure can also remove the excess tissue in the neck, providing a youthful contour to complement the rejuvenated face.
As the face undergoes changes in volume and skin texture in addition to those related to the inexorable pull of gravity, other procedures may augment the effects of a lower facelift. These may include neck (submental) liposuction, chin or cheek implants, injectable fillers, and skin resurfacing.
